Nachonomics: Year One

So we've been around for a whole year now...

What you know about Cinco de Mayo? Probably about a much as you know about St. Patrick’s Day, not much. To most of American it’s an excuse to drink to excess under the guise of celebrating another country when really they’re just making an embarrassment of themselves. This is not to imply that I knew any better about the holiday than anyone else, but I learned.

The original plan was to start Nachonomics on October 21st, the International Day of the Nacho, but I  didn’t want to wait the 5 months. Instead I went with America’s favorite Mexican holiday, on it’s 150th anniversary to be exact. Cinco de Mayo has been Americanized to such an extent that that most Mexicans probably wouldn’t recognize it in it’s current form, much like nachos themselves. It’s sad, and I want to change that. The nacho thing that is, but guess Cinco de Mayo as well while I’m at it.

I don’t know how many orders of nachos I’ve eaten this year, more than 40, less than 100, but I’ve only reviewed 16. I can eat them faster than I can write about them, but the more I eat the more I’ll write until one day every establishment in the land that serves nachos will be visited by me. Note to self, keep track of all the nachos I eat this year...

And the essays! Who would have thought you could say so much about nachos? Certainly not me, and I write about them for a living! But when it comes to inner workings of nachos we haven’t even scratched the surface! There is so much more to be explored and written about.

Nacho videos? Yes, they still exist, with more coming every day, and we’re still compiling them here. Are they worth watching? Most of the time no, but there are some good ones out there, and you should check them out.

So will any of this critical information bring nachos back to the lofty heights of respect they commanded before Concession Nachos besmirched their good name? Who can say. I can certainly hope so and solemnly swear Ii won't stop until their good name is restored in the eyes of the world. It's been an exciting year so far, and the upcoming ones are just going to get better and better.​ I couldn't have done it without you fine folks, so thanks for sticking around, and if you like it, like us on Facebook and Twitter, and tell a friend, or two.
