Nachonomics, LIVE-ish!

April 15, 2018 Nachonomics

It's that time of year again, time for Nachonomics to hit the road and peddle its nacho wares!

Should you happen to be out in Massachusetts' Pioneer Valley (Namely South Hadley, Saturday, April 21st) stop by Plains Elementary at 267 Granby St. between 9:30am and 3pm for Craft Fest! Mother's Day is May 13th, and what would a better gift be than a set of nacho books? 4/20 is the day before, and marijuana is legal in Massachusetts, so we all know that you'll probably be pretty hungry on Saturday, perhaps for some nachos? Or maybe you just need a nacho shirt for you works annual Company Nacho Party. Any reason for nachos is acceptable, we won't judge. Hope you can make it!

Essay: Nachos & Booze

April 5, 2018 Nachonomics

From boxcar riding hobos to the highest echelons of the Illuminati, nachos are a food fit for all humans, but what do you drink with them? While not every order of nachos is going to taste the same, the secret of matching a potable with an edible is picking one with a complimentary flavor profile to the other. You are of course in control of your own beverage destiny, but let me science you up some facts as to what beer, wine, and spirits play best with the greatest food of all foods.

Review: Red Rock Grill & Bar 2 - The Non-Breakfast Version of their Nachos

March 25, 2018 Nachonomics

Monterey Jack Cheese, Tomatoes, Salsa, Sour Cream, Jalapenos, BBQ Pulled Chicken

Do you believe in kismet? Here I sat, pondering which nachos I should write about on this day while I looked through my gallery of unwritten nachos. One little beauty caught my eye, a pretty little thing covered in pulled chicken. I knew it was from Red Rock Grill & Bar in Upton, MA. I knew I had written about their excellent breakfast nachos before. I searched the ol’ Nachonomics for my previous review and saw that EXACTLY TWO YEARS AGO TODAY I reviewed their breakfast nachos. It can be nothing but fate that today I review their regular nachos.

Review: The Compass Tavern

March 15, 2018 Nachonomics

Fresh corn tortilla chips, jack cheese, roasted red peppers, sliced jalapenos, sour cream, fresh salsa, chicken

I have a horrifying and shameful secret to reveal: sometimes when I eat spicy food my tum tum hurts. There used to be a time when I was known as “The Cast-Iron Stomach” and could eat a whole platter of Buffalo Calamari with a side of jalapenos any time of day without a second thought, but those days are long over. Now if I want to think about eating nachos after 8 pm I better have some Tums ready because my guts are going to be an acid bath. I thought they’d be ok if I went to The Compass Tavern for lunch, but then I saw their nachos.

Review: The Friendly Toast

March 5, 2018 Nachonomics

Tortilla Chips, Jalapeno-Jack Cheese, Black Olives, Cuban Beans, Salsa, Scallions, Avocado-Lime Sauce, Sour Cream, Buffalo Chicken Tenders

If you were to name a city in honor of someone named John Mason, you would think it would be called Masonville, Masonburg, Masontown, or something along those lines. However in New Hampshire they called it Portsmouth, because Mason had been the captain of the port of Portsmouth, England, in the county Hampshire, which is where the state got its name. It seems more likely that Mason was a bit of a dick and nobody really wanted to name the city after him so they made up an elaborate lie about how Portsmouth totally is based off of him, I swear. Anyhow, The Friendly Toast is a restaurant there, and that’s what we’re talking about today.
