The boys mosey back to the farm with another roundup of horror, so imagine last week, but more! They cover Dead Space 3, Dead Space 2023, A Wounded Fawn, Heck, The Last of Us, Infinity Pool, and Tenebrae. Lot of video games and giallo huh? Hope that’s what you’re in the mood for.
Episode 284 - Horror Roundup, February 2023, Part 1
Another year, another chance for the boys to talk about all the horror experiences they endured while on break. Dead Space 3 was played. Hellbender was watched. Reassuring Tales was read. V/H/S/99 was streamed. JR also "peddles" some "new" books, but doesn't seem to know anything about them. This is what taking time off does folks.
Episode 283 - Merry Christmas 18: Anna and the Apocalypse (2017)
When watching “ A Zombie Christmas Musical”, you would hope to have about a third of each for a good mix of a film. The 2017 film Anna and the Apocalypse is more of “A Musical with some Zombies that happens to take place at Christmas”, but that' isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Forget the comparisons to Shaun of the Dead and watch it as its own film and give us a listen. Or just give us a listen if you hate musicals, we promise Derek only sings a few times.
Episode 282 - Merry Christmas 17: Christmas Bloody Christmas (2022)
All the boys wanted for Christmas this year was a horror movie with a killer Santa that wasn't the typical Christmas cash in garbage. Guess they must have been bad this year because what they got was Christmas Bloody Christmas, which, despite what the internet has implied, is a completely run of the mill Christmas horror film. Obviously JR should have asked for better eyes, and Derek, I don't know, some nachos or something. Give it a holiday listen!
Episode 281 - Merry Christmas 16: The Advent Calendar (2021)
Quad·ri·ple·gic - /ˌkwädrəˈplējik/ - adjective - affected by or relating to paralysis of all four limbs; tetraplegic. Normally we wouldn't start out a description with a word definition, but the 2021 film The Advent Calendar demands that we do. Also a lot of talk about dumping, but that could be a German to French to Shudder translation issue...
Episode 280 - BARBARIAN (2022)
The gang sit down for a SPOILER FILLED look at BARBARIAN, which they both recommend you watch, especially before listening to this. Seriously, it’s on HBOMAX right now. Remember, statistically 1 in 10 people are a Barbarian, so if you look around and see 9 normal people who have also rented out your Airbnb, it might be you…
Episode 279 - Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities
To save time, the gang reviews THE ENTIRETY OF GUILLERMO DEL TORO’S CABINET OF CURIOSITIES IN ONE EPISODE. Could they have stretched it out into 8 episodes? You know they could have, but honestly they’re not all winners. Also “not all winners” is a metric the Creepshow series WISHES it could reach.
Episode 278 - Burnt Offerings (1976)
Don't have a few hours to read Burnt Offerings? How about spending a few hours instead watching it in movie form? The boys see how the movie stands up to the novel and see if it is one of the rare examples of film that is better than the book. Barring that, at least they can see that cool the chauffeur looks.
Episode 277 - Burnt Offerings, Part 2
The gang bids farewell to their quaint mansion in the country as they finish up Burnt Offerings. If the building will let them bid farewell that is. IF ONLY WE COULD HAVE ANTICIPATED THAT THIS WEIRD MANSION OWNED BY CREEPS WHICH WAS AVAILABLE WAY BELOW MARKET VALUE AND REPAIRS ITSELF WHEN PEOPLE SUFFER AROUND IT MIGHT BE A PROBLEM!
Episode 276 - Burnt Offerings, Part 1
The gang heads out of the city to spend some time at a quaint mansion in the country with Robert Marasco’s 1973 novel Burnt Offerings. When it comes to haunted houses, forget about ones just full of ghosts, this bad boy is plain evil. Also part of it takes place in Queens so you know JR won’t shut up about that.
Episode 275 - Horror Roundup, October 2022: The Roundup Fulfilled
Lair of the White Worm, Deadstream, Saloum, and something else I can't remember. Alone, that's it. Listen, you get how a roundup works by now, so enjoy this last one before we cover a book next week.
Episode 274 - Horror Roundup, October 2022: Season of the Roundup
The gang is live (barely) and in person for yet another roundup. Is hearing them talk about Hellraiser (2022), Final Prayer, Don’t Go In The House, and Pulse worth putting up with their coughing? You’ll find out!
Episode 273 - Horror Roundup, October 2022: The Roundupening
Get ready to clutch your pearls, not only do the boys cover SEVEN different properties this episode, but they even cautiously or even non-cautiously recommend all of them! You never thought you’d see the day, but they never thought they’d see Horror Express (Not Terror Train), Smile, Drag Me To Hell, Fairy Tale, Mandy, Nope, and Day Shift. Well, maybe 7 things that are fine.
Episode 272 - Horror Roundup, October 2022
Another roundup, another chance for the boys to recommend a bunch of movies. Barbarian, that's the film you should see. Look how easy that was? Oh yeah, they also talk about Scream (2022), Predator 2, Glorious, Extraordinary Tales, and Don’t Worry Darling, but Barbarian, that’s the chef’s kiss.
Episode 271 - Pred-Heads 3: Prey (2022)
If you were looking for a review of 2022’s Prey that wasn’t just a bunch of sexist BS, the gang has you covered today! This isn’t to say there aren’t other problems they’re going to talk about, like how the marketing would have been better if it wasn’t shown as a Predator film, or as a God of War knock-off where Amber Midthunder fights a 500-foot tall alien, but what can you do. Grab your faithful pup and listen along.
Episode 270 - Pred-Heads 2: Predators (2010)
The gang gets to the juicy meat of the Predator franchise sandwich (If you don’t count the AvP films) with 2010’s Predators. Featuring 2 Oscar winners and a murder’s row of not quite yet famous supporting cast, it’s a shame the Predators are so unimpressive. At least you’ve got Danny Trejo.
Episode 269 - Pred-Heads 1: Nomads (1986)
The boys, their thumbs always on the pulse of the horror zeitgeist, spend the month looking at all things Predator related, beginning with a fairly tangential one. In 1986, a young Arnold Schwarzenegger thought he was watching a movie about the Sega Genesis portable game system, but was actually the film debut of John McTiernan. Schwarzenegger was so blown away that he demanded Fox hire him to direct Predator the following year. Good idea? You decide.
Episode 268 - 2022 NecronomiCon Roundup
After three years away the gang returns to the Lovecraftian holy land of Providence, Rhode Island for another NECRONOMICON. The food, the fans, the firewater, the fun, it’s the Oscars of weird fiction. Well, probably closer to the Tonys, but what can you do. Talk about it, that’s what you can, and what we, do.
Episode 267 - Slaxx (2020)
It has come to this, a horror movie about a killer pair of pants. And we had to watch it thanks to ol’ JR. Give this one a listen, then let him know your opinions. I wash my hands.
Episode 266 - We're All Going to the World's Fair (2021)
Step aside Cinnamons and Slendermans, there's a new online challenge/creepypasta in town! 2021's "We're All Going to the World's Fair" is an online game all the cool kids are playing, and has separated the critics and audiences score by 90% to 32%. Even Momo has a less divisive score than that, but listen to see what the gang thinks.
